Saturday Selah: Grounding Ourselves for the Long Haul

Scripture: Psalm 68:19 NIV

“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.”

This week, our focus has been on dependence on God.

Instead of relying solely on ourselves or simply following society’s response to the pressures of life, we have been learning another way. We have been letting go of striving, learning to trust God again, walking in step with the Holy Spirit, embracing the peace that comes through surrender, and discovering the freedom found in daily dependence on God.

And now, on this Saturday, we rest.

Not because the journey is over. Not because everything has been resolved. Not because there will be nothing waiting for us when a new week begins.

We rest because we are learning that we do not have to carry ourselves through this life.

Psalm 68:19 gives us a beautiful truth to carry beyond this week: God daily bears our burdens.

Daily.

There is something deeply reassuring in that one word. God does not ask us to gather enough strength today to carry everything that may come tomorrow. He meets us today with what we need for today. And when tomorrow comes, He will be there too.

That is how we become grounded for the long haul.

Our strength is not found in becoming more self-sufficient. It is found in becoming more deeply rooted in the God who has proven Himself faithful, present, and dependable.

So today, we do not need to strive. We do not need to figure everything out. We do not need to carry tomorrow before it arrives.

We can simply rest in the God who carries us.

Selah Moment

Take two slow, cleansing breaths—in through your nose and out through your mouth.

As you breathe, ask God to center you in this time with Him.

Allow the noise of the week to quiet.

Release what you have been carrying.

And remind yourself:

I do not have to carry everything. God is here, and I can depend on Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for everything we have walked through with You this week. As we take this time to pause, help us recognize what this time in Your presence has done within us.

Thank You for helping us realize that we are not in control—and that we do not have to be—because You are.

Thank You for Your daily presence in our lives. Thank You for always being available when we need You. Thank You for being faithful, steady, and dependable.

As we learn to release our striving, deepen our trust in You. Teach us to walk in step with Your Spirit, receive the peace that comes through surrender, and depend on You one day at a time.

When burdens become heavy, remind us that we were never meant to carry them alone. You are the God who daily bears our burdens. Help us carry that truth beyond this week and into the days ahead.

Thank You for being a God we can truly depend on—wherever we are, whatever we face, and whenever we need You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Journal Reflection

Read today’s guiding Scripture, Psalm 68:19, twice:

“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.”

Sit quietly with the verse for a moment.

What did God reveal to you through His Word?

What does the phrase “daily bears our burdens” mean to you personally?

Is there something you have been carrying that God is inviting you to place into His hands?

Write down whatever God brings to your heart. There is no need to rush or force an answer. Simply make room to listen.

Return to Psalm 68:19 a few more times throughout the day. Each time, ask the Lord to deepen or clarify what He is showing you about dependence, surrender, and your continuing walk with Him.

Record any additional thoughts, Scriptures, questions, or insights that arise. You may also want to find other passages about God’s faithfulness, provision, strength, and care and use them to deepen your understanding of what it means to live in daily dependence on Him.

As you move forward, remember:

The long haul does not require you to carry a lifetime of burdens today.

God asks you to walk with Him today.

And tomorrow, He will still be God.
