Saturday Selah: Called By Name

Scripture: Isaiah 43:1 AMP

“But now, this is what the Lord, your Creator says, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you [from captivity]; I have called you by name; you are Mine!'”

Reflection

Before God asks anything of us, He speaks something over us.

Before the assignment, there is identity.

Before the calling, there is belonging.

Before the responsibility, there is relationship.

Throughout this week, we have explored the power of words and the lasting impact they have on our lives.

We watched Isaac speak a blessing over the next generation. We listened as the Father affirmed Jesus before He performed a single miracle. We saw Paul strengthen Timothy through encouragement and spiritual investment. We witnessed Jacob speak words that would echo through generations. And we reflected on the truth that life and death are carried in the power of the tongue.

Each message brought us back to a simple but profound question:

Whose voice are we carrying?

Many of us have spent years carrying words that were never meant to define us. Harsh criticism. Rejection. Failure. Labels placed upon us by others. Expectations we could never fulfill. We often allow those voices to become louder than the One who created us.

Yet Isaiah reminds us that God’s voice speaks first and speaks truest.

“I have called you by name.”

Not by your mistakes.

Not by your disappointments.

Not by your fears.

Not by your wounds.

By your name.

The God who formed you knows you completely and still claims you as His own.

There is tremendous freedom in realizing that our worth does not come from achievement, approval, titles, accomplishments, or the opinions of others. Our identity begins with the One who created us, redeemed us, and continues to call us His.

This week’s journey has been a reminder that the most important words spoken over our lives are the words God speaks Himself.

His blessing.

His affirmation.

His inheritance.

His calling.

His love.

And unlike human voices, His voice never changes.

Selah Moment

Find a quiet place today and spend a few moments reflecting on the voices that have shaped your life.

Ask yourself:

• What words have I been carrying that God never spoke over me?
• What labels am I still allowing to define me?
• Which truths from this week’s scriptures do I need to receive again?
• What does God call me that I have struggled to believe about myself?

Take a journal and create two columns.

In the first column, write down words, labels, expectations, or messages that have weighed heavily on your heart.

In the second column, write what God says instead.

For every criticism, write His truth.

For every fear, write His promise.

For every label, write His identity.

Then sit quietly and read Isaiah 43:1 once more.

Allow His voice to be the loudest one in the room.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for calling us by name before calling us to any task. Thank You that our identity is rooted not in what we accomplish but in who You say we are. Help us release every voice that contradicts Your truth and every label that does not belong to us.

Teach us to receive Your blessing, rest in Your affirmation, embrace our inheritance, and walk confidently in the identity You have given us. May Your voice become clearer than every fear, every criticism, and every doubt.

Remind us today that we are known, loved, redeemed, and called by You.
