Looking Ahead at The Witness Journal: When Wisdom Becomes a Way of Life

From The Way of Wisdom to Faith in Practice

For the past month, we have been walking The Way of Wisdom—Learning to Live What We Believe.

We have talked about our words and relationships. Our choices and plans. Integrity, self-control, generosity, justice, compassion, humility, teachability, and restraint.

Again and again, wisdom has brought us back to the same truth: what we believe about God should eventually become visible in the way we live.

And perhaps that is exactly where August needs to leave us.

Not asking whether we became perfectly wise in thirty-one days.

Not measuring ourselves against some impossible standard of spiritual perfection.

But asking whether something is changing.

Am I listening differently?

Speaking differently?

Choosing differently?

Loving differently?

Living more intentionally before God?

Because when the wisdom of God takes root deeply enough, it begins to become more than something we study.

It becomes a way of life.

And that gives us the perfect bridge into September.

September: Faith in Practice

Moving From Belief to Practice

September will invite us to examine what happens when faith moves beyond what we say we believe and begins shaping what we actually do.

Because faith was never intended to live only in our thoughts.

It was never meant to remain confined to Sunday worship, Bible study, prayer journals, favorite Scriptures, or words we know how to say.

Faith should have evidence.

Faith should affect our choices.

Faith should influence how we work, serve, love, forgive, give, respond, persevere, and obey.

Faith should have feet.

September Anchor Scripture

James 2:17 NIV

“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Throughout September, we are going to explore what it means to put our faith into practice—not through performance or an attempt to earn God’s love, but because a living relationship with God inevitably begins changing the way we live.

And first, we have one final day of wisdom.

Monday, August 31: A Life Built Wisely

Scripture: Proverbs 24:3–4

August closes with the picture of a life being built—one decision, one word, one relationship, one act of obedience at a time.

September 1–4

Faith Has Feet: Moving From Belief to Practice

Our opening days will establish the foundation for the month: faith is not merely something we possess. It is something we practice.

Tuesday, September 1: Faith Has Feet

Scripture: James 2:14–17

Wednesday, September 2: Be Doers

Scripture: James 1:22–25

Thursday, September 3: Faithful in the Small Things

Scripture: Luke 16:10

Friday, September 4: When Nobody Sees the Obedience

Scripture: Colossians 3:23–24

Wisdom has spent August teaching us how to live what we believe.

Now September is going to ask us to practice it.

Not only when the decision is important.

Not only when someone is watching.

Not only when obedience is convenient.

Not only when faithfulness receives recognition.

But in ordinary moments, small choices, quiet acts of obedience, difficult relationships, daily responsibilities, and opportunities to become the hands and feet of what we say we believe.

This week, we close The Way of Wisdom.

And then we begin putting our Faith in Practice.
