Looking Ahead – Jael: Courage in the Decisive Moment

As we continue our March journey through Women Whose Quiet Courage Changed History, we turn this week to a woman whose story unfolds in only a few verses — yet whose courage changed the course of a nation.

Her name is Jael.

Her story appears during the same battle we studied last week with Deborah and Barak. After Sisera, the commander of Israel’s oppressing army, fled the battlefield, he sought refuge in the tent of Jael — believing he had found safety.

But in a moment that would echo through Israel’s history, Jael acted with unexpected courage and decisive resolve.

Jael reminds us that faithfulness does not always look like public leadership or long preparation. Sometimes it looks like recognizing the moment God has placed before us — and responding with courage.

During this second week of Lent, we will reflect on the kind of faith that moves beyond hesitation and into faithful action.

This Week’s Daily Reflections

Monday — God Works Through the Willing
Judges 5:24

Tuesday — Courage Without Pause
Matthew 6:1

Wednesday — When Obedience Feels Uncomfortable
Luke 9:23

Thursday — Trusting God in Uncertain Moments
Proverbs 3:5-6

Friday — Faith That Acts, Not Hesitates
James 2:17

A Quiet Invitation for the Week

Jael’s story reminds us that courage does not always arrive with fanfare. Sometimes it arrives quietly — as a moment placed before us, asking for faith.

This week we will consider:

Where might God be inviting us to move from hesitation to faithful action?
