Looking Ahead at The Witness Journal: Learning Whose Voice We Will Follow

August Theme: The Way of Wisdom—Learning to Live What We Believe

Weekly Focus: Wisdom Begins With God, Who Is Teaching Me How to Live

Weekly Anchor: Proverbs 1:7 MSG

“Start with God—the first step in learning is bowing down to God; only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning.”

Biblical wisdom is more than knowing what Scripture says. It is allowing what we know about God to shape how we think, speak, choose, work, relate to others, and move through the world.

Wisdom is not simply intelligence. It is not guaranteed by age, education, accomplishment, or life experience. A person can possess an abundance of information and still make choices that lead them away from God. We can know many things about life without knowing how God desires us to live.

Biblical wisdom is a life oriented toward God.

It begins exactly where our weekly anchor directs us: Start with God.

Before we search within ourselves for answers, seek the opinions of others, or follow the wisdom of the world, we bow before the One who sees what we cannot see and knows what we do not know. We recognize who God is, trust what He says, and allow His truth to become the foundation beneath our decisions.

Before we can walk wisely, we must decide whose wisdom will guide us.

The world offers many voices. Some tell us to follow our feelings. Others encourage us to pursue success, recognition, comfort, control, or whatever promises immediate satisfaction. Our past experiences speak. Our fears speak. Our desires speak. The expectations of other people speak.

God also speaks.

His voice may not always affirm what we want, but it will always lead us toward what is true, righteous, loving, and life-giving. The wisdom of God does not merely help us make better decisions. It teaches us how to become people whose lives reflect Him.

This week, we are beginning at the foundation: learning whose voice we will follow.

What to Look for This Week

As we move through the week, we will examine where true wisdom begins, who its source is, and why it is worth more than many of the things we spend our lives pursuing.

We will also consider what has been shaping our hearts and whether our daily choices are leading us in the direction God desires us to go.

This week is not about proving how much we know. It is about becoming willing to learn.

God is not asking us to have every answer before we begin. He is inviting us to trust Him enough to listen, receive instruction, accept correction, and allow His wisdom to shape the way we live.

As we enter this first full week of August, let us pay attention to the voices influencing us. Let us notice what we have been pursuing, what we have allowed to shape us, and where our present choices may be leading.

Before we can walk wisely, we must decide whose wisdom will guide us.

May this be the week we choose to start with God.
