Trusting God Between the Prayer and the Answer

Weekly Anchor: Psalm 27:14 NIV
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

There is a particular kind of faith required when there is nothing new to report.

You prayed.

You asked God for direction. You asked Him to open the door, provide the resources, heal the relationship, change the situation, give the answer, make the way, or finally reveal what comes next.

And then…

Nothing seems to happen.

The circumstances look the same. The need is still there. The answer has not arrived. The door has not opened. And perhaps the hardest part is that you do not know whether the answer is coming tomorrow, six months from now, or in a form completely different from what you imagined.

This is where waiting becomes spiritual work.

Waiting on God is not the absence of faith. Sometimes it is one of the greatest demonstrations of faith because we must continue trusting God when we have no visible evidence that anything is changing.

Psalm 27 does not simply tell us to wait. It says:

“Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

That tells us something important.

Waiting requires strength.

It takes strength to keep believing when nothing looks different.

It takes strength to continue living faithfully when the thing you desperately want has not happened.

It takes strength to resist forcing a door God has not opened.

It takes strength to keep obeying when obedience has not yet produced the outcome we hoped to see.

And sometimes it takes tremendous strength simply to wake up another morning and say:

“God, I still trust You.”

Faith while we wait does not mean pretending the waiting is easy. It does not mean we cannot be disappointed, tired, confused, frustrated, or even deeply discouraged.

It means those feelings do not get the final word.

God does.

There is a temptation during long seasons of waiting to place our lives on hold.

We begin thinking:

When this happens, then I can move forward.

When God answers this prayer, then I will have peace.

When the opportunity comes, then I can begin.

When this situation changes, then I can finally live.

But what if God has work for us to do while we wait?

What if this season is not simply something we must endure until our real life begins?

What if God is developing something in us right here?

Patience.

Endurance.

Wisdom.

Discernment.

Dependence.

Trust.

Sometimes we are watching the calendar while God is working on our character.

Sometimes we are looking for movement around us while God is creating movement within us.

And sometimes the answer has not appeared because God is still arranging things we cannot see.

Waiting does not mean God has forgotten us.

Silence does not mean God is absent.

Delay does not automatically mean denial.

Our responsibility is not to control God’s timing.

Our responsibility is to remain faithful in the time He has given us.

So this week, we are going to talk honestly about the space between the prayer and the answer.

Not from the comfortable perspective of people who already know how everything turned out.

But from the middle.

The uncertain place.

The place where faith must keep walking even when there is nothing new to see.

The Practice for This Week

This week, when you find yourself becoming anxious about something you have already placed before God, pause before trying to solve it again.

Ask yourself:

Has God given me something to do today?

If He has, do that faithfully.

If He has not, resist the urge to manufacture movement simply because waiting feels uncomfortable.

You do not have to force what God has not released.

You do not have to create your own answer because His answer has not arrived yet.

You do not have to abandon your faith because you cannot see evidence of progress.

Keep praying.

Keep obeying.

Keep living.

Keep becoming.

Keep trusting.

And when you have nothing new to report, let this still be your testimony:

I am waiting on God—and I still trust Him.

Lord, teach us how to trust You in the middle. When the prayer has been prayed and the answer has not yet come, keep us from becoming discouraged, impatient, or tempted to force what You have not released. Give us strength to keep living faithfully while we wait. Help us recognize what You are developing within us even when we cannot see what You are doing around us. Teach us to trust not only Your promises, but Your timing. Our times are in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
