Saturday Selah: Returning to Rest

Scripture: Psalm 116:7 NIV

“Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.”

Reflection

Pause for a moment.

Before the responsibilities of a new week begin, before your mind races ahead to what still needs your attention, allow yourself to simply be still in the presence of God.

Throughout this week, we have been reminded that Christ calls us to stand firm in our faith, that there is no condemnation for those who belong to Him, that He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness, that shame no longer has authority over our lives, and that He has already broken the chains that once held us captive.

Now comes the invitation.

Rest.

Psalm 116 was written by someone who knew both hardship and God’s faithfulness. Looking back over what the Lord had done, the psalmist spoke to his own heart: “Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.”

Sometimes we need to preach that same truth to ourselves.

When worry begins to creep back in…
When old fears try to reclaim space in our thoughts…
When shame whispers lies that Christ has already silenced…
When we become weary from carrying burdens God never asked us to bear…

We can return to rest.

Not because life is perfect. Not because every prayer has already been answered. But because the God who has carried us this far has not changed. His faithfulness yesterday reminds us that He will remain faithful tomorrow.

As you reflect on this week, don’t focus only on what still needs to change. Spend time remembering what God has already done. Recall the prayers He has answered, the strength He has supplied, the peace He has given, and the chains He has already broken. Every evidence of His faithfulness becomes another reason to trust Him with what is still ahead.

Today, give yourself permission to stop striving.

Sit quietly with the Lord.

Let gratitude replace anxiety.

Let His presence quiet your soul.

And receive His invitation to return to the place where your heart was always meant to live—in His faithful, loving care.

Selah Reflection

In your journal, spend a few moments reflecting on these questions:

  • Where have I seen God’s goodness this week?
  • What burden have I continued carrying that God is inviting me to release?
  • How can I intentionally enter His rest before beginning a new week?

Then write a simple prayer of thanksgiving, listing three ways God has shown His faithfulness in your life recently.

Closing Prayer

Faithful Father, thank You for Your goodness that never fails. Thank You for walking with us through every victory, every struggle, and every moment in between. When our hearts become restless, remind us that our true rest is found in You. Help us release every burden You never intended us to carry and trust You with the days ahead. Fill our minds with the memories of Your faithfulness, quiet every anxious thought, and renew our strength as we rest in Your presence. May we leave this time of reflection encouraged, refreshed, and confident that the God who has been faithful will continue to lead us each step of the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
