Saturday Selah: What Faith Has Been Growing All Along
Scripture: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9 NIV
Selah Moment
Before you begin reading, pause for a moment.
Take a slow breath and allow yourself to settle into God’s presence.
This month has carried us through stories of being seen, surrendering what we love, trusting God in uncertainty, persevering through difficulty, experiencing redemption, growing in strength, and leaving a witness through faithful living. Before you look back over those lessons, ask God to help you see your own story with fresh eyes.
Where have you grown?
Where have you been sustained?
Where has His faithfulness carried you farther than you realized?
Resist the urge to evaluate, measure, or judge this season.
Instead, simply notice.
Notice His provision.
Notice His patience.
Notice His presence.
Sit quietly with Him for a moment.
Selah.
Reflection
There is a temptation to measure growth only by what we can see.
We look for answered prayers, changed circumstances, open doors, restored relationships, and visible evidence that God is working. Yet much of God’s work happens beneath the surface long before we ever see the fruit.
Throughout this month, we have walked alongside women whose stories remind us of that truth.
Hagar discovered that she was seen.
Leah learned that her worth was never dependent upon human approval.
Sarah witnessed God fulfill a promise that seemed impossible.
Jochebed surrendered what she loved most into God’s care.
Hannah released her deepest longing and trusted God with the outcome.
The widow of Zarephath learned that obedience can sustain us through seasons of scarcity.
The Canaanite woman demonstrated a faith that refused to give up.
Naomi experienced redemption after loss.
Bathsheba saw God bring purpose from a story marked by pain.
The mother of James and John learned that understanding often comes later.
The Proverbs 31 woman showed us the strength that develops through years of faithful living.
And this week, we reflected on a life that leaves a witness.
At first glance, these stories appear very different. Yet they all reveal the same truth: God was doing more than changing circumstances. He was shaping hearts.
Faith nurtures hope.
Faith nurtures trust.
Faith nurtures perseverance.
Faith nurtures wisdom.
Faith nurtures courage.
Faith nurtures understanding.
Faith nurtures strength.
And over time, faith nurtures a witness that points others back to God.
Sometimes we do not realize what God has been growing until we pause long enough to look back.
We discover that the waiting produced patience.
The surrender produced trust.
The trials produced endurance.
The ordinary days produced faithfulness.
And the years produced a testimony.
Perhaps that is the invitation of this final Selah.
Not to focus on what still has not happened.
Not to focus on what remains unfinished.
But to notice what God has already been cultivating within you.
The harvest may still be growing.
The answers may still be unfolding.
But if you look closely, you may find evidence that His work has been present all along.
This month, we have reflected on a faith that nurtures. As we come to the end of the series, perhaps the greatest lesson is that faith was never only nurturing the things we were praying for.
Faith was nurturing us.
Quietly.
Patiently.
Day by day.
And just as a tree does not grow because it is constantly inspected, neither do we. Growth happens through seasons. Through storms. Through sunshine. Through roots stretching deeper than we can see.
Looking back, we may discover that the path itself was growing the tree all along.
The faith that nurtured you is now becoming part of the witness you leave behind.
Reflection Questions
- As you look back over this month, where can you see evidence of God’s faithfulness in your life?
- What qualities has God been nurturing within you during this season?
- Where might you be overlooking growth because it has happened slowly and quietly?
- How has your faith become part of the witness you are leaving for others?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your patient work in our lives. Thank You for the ways You nurture faith through both joyful and difficult seasons. Help us to recognize the growth You have already accomplished within us and to trust You with the work that is still unfolding. Give us eyes to see Your faithfulness and hearts that remain rooted in You. May the lives we live become a witness to Your goodness, grace, and enduring love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Leona
