Saturday Selah: Notice and Receive

Scripture: Psalm 34:8 GNT

“Find out for yourself how good the LORD is. Happy are those who find safety with him.”

Sometimes God’s goodness is so ordinary that we nearly overlook it.

A conversation that came at just the right time. Someone offering help without being asked. A meal prepared with love. A moment of unexpected peace in the middle of a difficult day. The simple relief of realizing that something you were worried about has been taken care of.

These moments may not seem extraordinary, but they are worth noticing.

Throughout this week, we’ve reflected on God’s presence in our work, our interrupted plans, our gatherings, the care we give, and even our rest. Each reflection reminds us that God’s presence is not reserved for extraordinary circumstances. He meets us in the everyday experiences of our lives.

Psalm 34:8 offers a beautiful invitation: “Find out for yourself how good the LORD is.”

Notice that the invitation is personal. We are not simply being asked to believe someone else’s testimony about God’s goodness. We are invited to experience it for ourselves.

But there is a difference between noticing goodness and receiving it.

Sometimes we recognize an act of kindness but immediately feel obligated to return the favor. We experience a moment of peace but quickly fill it with another responsibility. We receive help but minimize our need for it because we are so accustomed to being the one who helps everyone else.

What if receiving is also an act of faith?

What if allowing ourselves to be cared for, comforted, or provided for is another way of acknowledging God’s presence?

We do not have to earn every kindness. We do not have to explain away every blessing. And we do not have to turn every moment of rest into another opportunity to be productive.

Sometimes we simply need to receive.

This does not mean the week was perfect. Perhaps there were disappointments, worries, or moments of exhaustion. Recognizing God’s goodness does not require us to deny what was difficult.

It simply reminds us that difficulty was not the only thing present.

God’s goodness was there, too.

Today’s Selah: Pause, Notice, Receive

Take a few quiet moments today and remember one ordinary experience from this past week when you encountered goodness, comfort, or provision.

Don’t dismiss it because it seemed small. Don’t compare it to someone else’s experience. And don’t rush past it.

Remember how it felt. Consider what it revealed about God’s care for you.

Then, rather than immediately thinking about what comes next, allow yourself to receive the goodness of that moment again.

Let gratitude become your response.

And let receiving become part of your rest.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, thank You for the goodness You place throughout my ordinary days. Forgive me for the moments when I have been too distracted, hurried, or determined to manage everything myself to recognize Your care. Teach me to notice the small mercies I might otherwise overlook. Help me receive kindness without guilt, comfort without resistance, and rest without feeling I must earn it. Even when life is difficult, remind me that Your goodness remains. Today, I choose to pause, remember, and give thanks. In Jesus’ name, amen.
