Looking Ahead at The Witness Journal: Faithfulness in the Everyday-Finding God in Ordinary Life
Weekly Anchor: Luke 16:10 NIV
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”
There is something in us that can be drawn to the extraordinary.
We imagine the big assignment. The defining moment. The unmistakable opportunity to do something significant for God. We may wonder when our purpose will become clear, when the door will open, or when God will give us something important to do.
But sometimes, while we are waiting for something extraordinary, we overlook the ordinary life God has already placed in front of us.
The work that needs to be done.
The promise that needs to be kept.
The person who needs our help.
The responsibility that belongs to us.
The rest our bodies need.
The small task no one will applaud.
The decision to show up again tomorrow and do what we know is right.
Jesus reminds us in Luke 16:10 that faithfulness with little things matters. What seems small to us is not necessarily small to God. Our everyday choices reveal something about who we are becoming.
Faithfulness is often much quieter than we imagine.
It may look like completing the work we said we would complete even when we would rather put it off.
It may mean caring well for something that does not feel important.
It may mean serving someone who can do nothing for us in return.
Sometimes faithfulness means continuing.
Sometimes it means resting.
Sometimes it means taking responsibility instead of making excuses.
And sometimes it simply means doing the next right thing with the life God has given us today.
Finding God in Ordinary Life
We do not have to separate our spiritual lives from our everyday lives.
God is present in both.
He is not only God of the sanctuary, the prayer closet, the worship service, or the life-changing moment. He is also God of Monday morning.
God of the workplace.
God of the kitchen.
God of the commute.
God of the calendar, the errands, the responsibilities, the interruptions, and the routines.
The ordinary places of life can become places of worship when we learn to live them faithfully before Him.
That means this week is not necessarily about adding something else to our lives.
It may simply be about seeing differently what is already there.

Faithfulness Becomes a Way of Life
A faithful life is rarely built through one enormous act of obedience.
It is built through thousands of ordinary ones.
One choice.
One responsibility.
One act of service.
One moment of restraint.
One decision to keep going.
One willingness to rest when rest is needed.
One ordinary day lived faithfully before God.
And perhaps that is one of the great lessons of Faith in Practice:
We do not have to wait for an extraordinary life to live extraordinary faith.
We simply have to be faithful with the life God has placed in front of us.
As We Look Ahead
This week, let us ask ourselves:
Where has God already given me something to steward faithfully?
Have I confused productivity with worth?
Are there ordinary responsibilities I have dismissed because they do not seem spiritually significant?
Where might simply showing up become an act of ministry?
What small act of obedience have I been tempted to believe does not matter?
The little things matter.
The ordinary days matter.
The unseen choices matter.
And faithfulness practiced there—again and again—eventually becomes more than something we do.
It becomes part of who we are.
Lord, teach us to recognize You in the ordinary places of our lives. Help us stop overlooking the responsibilities, relationships, opportunities, and moments You have already placed before us while waiting for something greater. Remind us that our worth does not come from what we produce, and help us steward faithfully what You have entrusted to us. Give us grace to work faithfully, rest faithfully, serve faithfully, show up faithfully, and obey You even in the smallest things. Let our faith be visible not only in extraordinary moments, but in the quiet consistency of everyday obedience. May the way we live our ordinary days honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
