From Mine to His: A Heart of Gratitude
Scripture: “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” — 1 Chronicles 29:14 NIV
There is a quiet shift that happens when we stop saying “mine” and begin saying “His.”
In 1 Chronicles 29:14 NIV, David stands before God in awe—not because of what he has, but because of where it all came from. His words are not filled with pride or possession, but with humility and gratitude: Everything comes from you.
It is a reminder we often need.
We live in a world that encourages ownership—my home, my income, my success, my resources. And yet, Scripture gently reorients us. What we hold is not truly ours. It has been entrusted to us, placed in our hands for a time, for a purpose.
And when we begin to see it that way, something changes.
Gratitude replaces pressure.
Instead of striving to hold tightly to everything we have, we begin to open our hands. We recognize that what God has given, He sustains. What He entrusts, He also provides the grace to steward.
Gratitude shifts our posture from control to surrender.
It reminds us that we are not the source—we are recipients. Not the owners—but stewards. And in that realization, giving no longer feels like loss. It becomes a response. A return. A quiet act of worship.
Even the smallest things begin to carry new meaning.
The breath in our lungs.
The strength to get through the day.
The resources we didn’t create but have been given.
All of it—His.
When we truly embrace this, gratitude is no longer something we practice occasionally. It becomes the way we see everything.
And from that place, generosity flows naturally. Not out of obligation, but out of recognition.
Because how can we not give, when we realize we’ve only ever been giving back what was already His?
Closing Reflection
Today, notice what you’ve been calling yours.
And gently, prayerfully… place it back in His hands.
You may find that gratitude meets you there.

Five-Minute Stillness Practice
Sit quietly with your hands open in your lap.
Name three things you’re grateful for—slowly, intentionally.
After each one, whisper:
“This came from You.”
Let that truth settle.
