Saturday Selah: Deepening Trust

This week at The Witness Journal, we didn’t just talk about trust — we stepped into it.

We began with a hard truth: trusting God does not mean we understand everything. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5–6, NLT). Biblical trust asks us to release the illusion that clarity must come before obedience.

Then we saw that peace is not the absence of conflict, but the fruit of anchored faith. “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you” (Isaiah 26:3, NLT). Peace is not fragile. It is steady. It is rooted. It is held.

Midweek, we were reminded that when we commit our way to the Lord, He will act (Psalm 37:5, NRSV). Trust is not passive — it is surrendered confidence that God is faithful to move.

And perhaps most tenderly, we reflected on the truth that hardship does not contradict God’s love. “For no one is cast off by the Lord forever… though he brings grief, he will show compassion” (Lamentations 3:31–33, NIV). Correction flows from compassion. God’s heart is never cruel — even when the season feels heavy.

If there is one thread woven through this entire week, it is this:

Trust is relational.

It grows not from outcomes, but from knowing God’s character.
It deepens when we look back and see His faithfulness.
It steadies us when emotions fluctuate.
It anchors us when circumstances shift.

Trust is not pretending life is easy.
Trust is believing God is good — even when it isn’t.

🌿 A Moment for Selah

Before you rush into the weekend, pause and consider:

  • Where did I feel resistance to trusting God this week?
  • Where did I experience unexpected peace?
  • What is one situation I need to release fully into His hands?

Sit with it. No performance. No pressure. Just presence.

Prayer

Father,
Thank You for patiently deepening our trust in You. Thank You for steadying our minds, guiding our steps, and reminding us that even in hard seasons, Your heart is compassionate. Teach us to release what we cannot control and rest in who You are. Strengthen our faith where it feels thin. Anchor us where we feel unstable.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Leona
