Rooted in What God Says

Scripture: “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you…” — Isaiah 66:13 NIV

Opening Reflection

Before we step into all that is ahead, we pause…

Not to rush into a new month.
Not to plan or strive or figure everything out.

But to be still.
To be comforted.
To remember.

Because before God ever calls us forward, He draws us close.

In Isaiah 66:13 NIV, He gives us a picture that is both tender and powerful—He compares His care to that of a mother comforting her child. This is not distant provision. This is not detached oversight.

This is nurturing.

This is intentional, attentive, deeply personal care.

Introducing May’s Theme: Faith That Nurtures

As we step into May, we are entering a space centered on Faith That Nurtures.

Not just faith that believes.
Not just faith that perseveres.

But faith that covers, tends, grows, and sustains.

Throughout this month, we will explore what it means to be nurtured by God—and how that nurturing shapes the way we live, love, and trust Him.

We’ll reflect on the lives of mothers in Scripture—not simply to highlight motherhood, but to understand the nature of nurturing faith:

  • Faith that protects in uncertain moments
  • Faith that releases when control is no longer ours
  • Faith that trusts God’s hand in the unseen
  • Faith that pours out even when it feels costly

These women didn’t just believe God.

They carried, covered, interceded, and trusted Him with what mattered most.

And in their stories, we will begin to see something deeper:

God has been nurturing us all along.

God as Our First Covering

Before we ever learn how to nurture anything or anyone else,
we must first recognize how deeply we are nurtured by Him.

He comforts.
He restores.
He sustains.
He gently calls us back when we drift.

His care is not rushed.
His presence is not conditional.

It is steady.
It is faithful.
It is enough.

And sometimes, the most spiritual thing we can do…
is allow ourselves to be held there.

A Gentle Invitation

So today, before anything else—

Pause.

Let yourself sit in the truth that God is not asking you to produce something first.
He is inviting you to receive.

Receive His comfort.
Receive His covering.
Receive His care.

Because faith that nurtures…
always begins with being nurtured by Him.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the reminder that before I do anything, You are already caring for me. You see me, You comfort me, and You nurture me in ways I don’t always recognize. As I step into this new month, help me to rest in Your covering first. Teach me what it means to be sustained by You, not striving on my own. Let this month be one where my faith is deepened, softened, and strengthened through Your love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Leona

Journal Prompts

As you pause today, you might reflect on…

1. Where have I recently felt the need for comfort, and have I brought that to God?
2. What does “being nurtured by God” look like in my current season?
3. In what areas of my life am I striving instead of resting in His care?
