Strengthened with Power Within

There is a common misunderstanding about transformation.

Many of us grow up believing that spiritual growth means trying harder, doing better, becoming more disciplined, or proving maturity through effort. But biblical transformation is not self-improvement. It is not behavior management. And it is not something we achieve through striving.

True transformation begins within.

It is the slow, sacred work God does in the hidden places of our hearts — reshaping our desires, renewing our perspective, softening our responses, deepening our faith. Over time, we begin to notice subtle but meaningful shifts. We don’t react the same way we used to. We don’t carry things the same way. We don’t strive the same way. We don’t cling to control the same way.

Not because we forced change,
but because God has been quietly changing us.

That is how transformation happens —
not through pressure, but through presence.
not through striving, but through surrender.
not through effort, but through intimacy with God.

I know this personally. Many times when I have tried to handle things on my own, the outcome has been frustrating at best and discouraging at worst. But when I bring what’s heavy to God and remain focused on Him, something different happens. The weight shifts. The burden lifts. Over time, it becomes settled in my spirit — not because I figured it out, but because He is carrying it and working in it on my behalf.

And this is exactly why Paul’s prayer for believers is so powerful.

In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul does not pray first for changed circumstances. He prays for inner strengthening — for something deeper than external improvement.

“I pray that he would unveil within you the unlimited riches of his glory and favor until supernatural strength floods your innermost being with his divine might and explosive power. Then, by constantly using your faith, the life of Christ will be released deep within you, and the resting place of his love will become the very source and root of your life. Then you will be empowered to discover what every holy one experiences—the great magnitude of the astonishing love of Christ in all its dimensions. How deeply intimate and far-reaching is his love! How enduring and inclusive it is! Endless love beyond measurement that transcends our understanding—this extravagant love pours into you until you are filled to overflowing with the fullness of God!”
— Ephesians 3:16–19 (TPT)

Paul’s desire is not that we would perform better spiritually, but that we would be filled more fully with God Himself. That Christ would dwell deeply within us. That His love would become our resting place. That our lives would be rooted in something far stronger than self-effort.

Because when God strengthens the inner life, everything else begins to shift naturally.

Our faith deepens.
Our endurance grows.
Our love expands.
Our peace steadies.

This is the work of transformation — not loud, not rushed, not forced — but holy, steady, and deeply personal.

And the beauty of it is this:
God does not expect us to produce the change.
He invites us to yield to the process.

Transformation is not our responsibility to manufacture.
It is our invitation to receive.

Gentle Reflection

If God’s work is focused on strengthening your inner being — not just fixing your outer circumstances…

Where might He be inviting you to stop striving
and begin resting in His work within you?

Journal Prompts

Choose one or two that meet you where you are:

  • Where do I feel most spiritually weary right now?
  • Have I been relying more on my own effort than on God’s strength?
  • What would it look like for Christ’s love to truly become my resting place?
  • When have I seen God quietly shaping me over time?
  • What changes when I trust that God is working within me, even when I cannot yet see the fruit?

Closing Prayer

Father God, thank You for doing the deep work we could never accomplish on our own. Thank You for strengthening us from the inside out and for forming Christ within us through Your Spirit. Teach us to release control, to trust Your process, and to rest in Your love as our foundation. Continue shaping our hearts, renewing our minds, and anchoring us in Your truth, even when the work feels hidden. We receive Your peace, Your presence, and Your transforming power.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Leona
