Renewed Day by Day
Living Faith One Day at a Time
Scripture Focus: 2 Corinthians 4:16
Have you ever heard the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover?”
It’s a fitting analogy for the life of faith.
Take Apostle Paul, for example. By all outward appearances, Paul was once a fierce opponent of Christianity. He persecuted the followers of Jesus, convinced he was doing the right thing. Yet after a life-altering encounter with Christ, he became one of the faith’s most devoted students—leading others to Jesus and suffering greatly for the very truth he once tried to destroy.
Paul’s life didn’t suddenly become easier after his transformation. He was misunderstood, imprisoned, and worn down by hardship. And still, his inner life told a very different story.
In Second Corinthians, Paul writes with striking honesty about this tension between what is seen and what is unseen:
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:16 NIV
This verse captures the heart of living faith day by day.
Paul does not deny the reality of struggle. He names it. He acknowledges the weariness, the suffering, the cost. But he refuses to let outward circumstances define his faith. Instead, he anchors himself in the quiet, faithful work God is doing within.
Living faith day by day isn’t about dramatic moments or visible victories. It’s about trusting that even when life feels heavy, delayed, or uncertain, God is still renewing us from the inside out. It’s choosing not to lose heart when the evidence isn’t obvious yet.
Like Paul, our lives may look one way on the outside—tired, stretched, unsure—while God is doing something entirely different within us. Faith lived daily is steady, surrendered, and often unseen. But it is no less powerful.
And it is renewed—day by day.
Closing Prayer
Gracious God,
Thank You that even when we feel worn down on the outside, You are quietly at work within us. Help us not to lose heart when the days feel heavy or our progress feels slow. Teach us to trust the unseen work You are doing—renewing our minds, strengthening our spirits, and shaping us more into Your likeness.
Give us the grace to live our faith one day at a time, leaning not on what we see, but on who You are. When we grow tired, remind us that Your renewal is daily, faithful, and sufficient. May we rest in the truth that You are never finished with us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Devotional Journaling Prompt
Read 2 Corinthians 4:16 slowly, more than once.
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”
Now reflect and write:
- What feels worn, heavy, or discouraging in my life right now?
- Where do I sense God quietly renewing me, even if the change feels subtle or unseen?
- What would it look like for me to not lose heart today?
Finish this sentence in your journal:
Today, I choose to trust God with…
Sit with that truth. Let renewal begin within.
