A Holy Pause: Gathering the Week Before God
All week long, the Spirit has been inviting us into something quieter… deeper… more intentional.
Not louder effort.
Not stronger discipline.
But renewed attention.
We began the week reflecting on what it means to delight in the ways of God rather than simply knowing about Him. A life rooted beside living water doesn’t strive to bear fruit — it bears fruit naturally, because of where it is planted (cf. Psalm 1:2–3, NIV).
We then stood at Wisdom’s gate, realizing that wisdom is not distant or hidden. She is calling, inviting, offering life to those willing to wait, listen, and seek (cf. Proverbs 8:34–35, NIV). Waiting, we learned, is not passive—it is a posture of trust and attentiveness.
Midweek, we were reminded that God’s mercy does not carry over like leftovers. It is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23, NIV). We cannot live today on yesterday’s grace. Renewal is daily, personal, and continually offered.
From there, our hearts were drawn to examine our priorities. Jesus’ words were not a suggestion, but a loving reordering: “Seek first the kingdom…” (Matthew 6:33). Not when it’s convenient. Not after everything else. But first.
And finally, we were invited to allow God’s Word to dwell richly within us (Colossians 3:16, NIV)—not merely to be read, but to take up residence, shaping our thoughts, our tone, our responses, and our inner life.
Taken together, this week was not about striving harder.
It was about returning again and again to the Source.
Selah — A Moment of Stillness
Before scrolling further… pause.
Take a slow breath in.
Hold it for a moment.
Release gently.
Whisper, if you’re able:
“Lord, help me notice where You have been speaking.”
Sit with that for a few seconds. No pressure to perform. No need to produce. Simply be present.
Reflection Prompts
(Choose the ones that meet you where you are.)
- Where this week did I sense God gently redirecting my attention?
- Am I waiting for wisdom—or rushing ahead without it?
- What habits are shaping me more than Scripture currently is?
- Where do I need fresh mercy instead of recycled effort?
- What would it look like for God’s Word to truly dwell in me this coming week?
You don’t need to answer them all. Sit with one. Let it unfold slowly.
A Closing Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for the quiet ways You speak.
For the gentle nudges, the holy interruptions, the invitations to return.
Teach us to delight in You,
To wait for Your wisdom,
To depend on Your mercy daily,
To seek Your kingdom first,
And to make room for Your Word to dwell deeply within us.
Still our striving.
Sharpen our listening.
Reorder our hearts.
We rest here, in Your presence.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Leona
