Wisdom Comes from God

Scripture: Proverbs 2:6 TPT

“Wisdom is a gift from a generous God, and every word he speaks is full of revelation and becomes a fountain of understanding within you.”

There is no shortage of voices competing for our attention. Every day we are surrounded by advice, opinions, headlines, podcasts, social media, and conversations that all claim to offer direction for how we should live. While many of these sources can offer helpful insight, none of them can replace the wisdom that comes from God.

The Passion Translation reminds us that wisdom is not something we earn through intelligence or discover simply by gathering more information. Wisdom is a gift from a generous God. Because He delights in giving good gifts to His children, He does not withhold the guidance we need. Instead, He invites us to seek Him with confidence, knowing that His heart is to lead us well.

Notice the beautiful promise in this verse: every word He speaks is full of revelation and becomes a fountain of understanding within you. God’s Word does more than inform our minds—it transforms our hearts. As we spend time in Scripture, pray, and listen for His voice, He begins changing the way we think, discern, and respond. His wisdom doesn’t simply answer today’s questions; it shapes who we are becoming.

God often teaches us through many different avenues. He speaks through His Word. He leads us in prayer. He uses mature believers to offer wise counsel. He grows us through life’s experiences and, at times, through loving correction. Yet every source of guidance should always be measured against His character and His truth. If advice pulls us away from God’s Word, it is not wisdom, no matter how appealing it may sound.

One of the greatest comforts of following Christ is knowing that we were never intended to figure life out on our own. We do not have to rely solely on our understanding when the God who sees every detail of our lives offers His wisdom freely. He sees the road ahead long before we reach it. He knows the outcomes we cannot yet imagine. And because He is both perfectly wise and perfectly loving, we can trust His direction even when we don’t yet understand it.

Each day presents a choice about whose voice will shape our thinking. As we seek the Lord first, His wisdom becomes the steady foundation beneath every decision, every conversation, and every step we take.

Before making an important decision today, pause and seek God’s wisdom first. Read His Word, spend time in prayer, and ask the Holy Spirit to shape your thinking before seeking advice anywhere else. Let God’s voice become the first voice you listen to today.

Wisdom Challenge

Identify one decision, conversation, or concern you’ve been carrying. Resist the urge to gather more opinions first. Instead, spend intentional time in Scripture and prayer, asking God to reveal His perspective. Write down what He teaches you, and let His wisdom—not the world’s—guide your next step.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the generous source of all true wisdom. Thank You that Your words bring revelation and become a fountain of understanding within us. Teach me to seek Your voice before every other voice and to measure every decision against Your truth. Give me a heart that trusts Your guidance even when I cannot yet see the outcome. Shape my thoughts, my choices, and my life by the wisdom that only You can give. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
